MONDAY- Introduction to T.C. Boyle. Annotation discussion and close reading strategies. Read “Chicxulub” short story and complete “Active Reading Sheet” for homework.

TUESDAY- 5 Minute Free-write During Homework Check. Introduction to Chicxulub and the Necessary Component of Writer Researcher. Share and Discuss Responses From Active Reading Sheet.

WEDNESDAY- The Concept of Individual Thesis Development. What Message Have You Arrived At? Use Consensus To Elicit The Finer Intent Statements. Narrow Each Table Group Down To One and Discuss. Read “Bloodfall” for tomorrow’s class and select lines for activity.

THURSDAY- “Bloodfall” Discussion. How Does Boyle drive home his very important message? What strategies does he use to have an effect on the reader?

FRIDAY- Guidance Meeting…don’t miss this day!

THURSDAY- Poster Delivery Day

FRIDAY- VICE day with in-class assignment

9/26-10/1

MONDAY- Finish remaining poster presentations and assessments. Begin “Greasy Lake” and complete story response sheet.(find below)

TUESDAY- Share with table partner your responses while homework check is conducted. Discuss “Greasy Lake” via reading sheets. Introduce students to creative writing piece. Homework is to complete creative writing piece…filling in our own gaps. find creative writing sheet below.

WEDNESDAY- Share creative writing story completions. Build similarity chart for Boyle stories to begin considering a story thesis that covers all three stories.

THURSDAY- *First significant writing assignment. Pass out writing assignment sheet and discuss parameters for first essay. You will be given one lab day to begin essay. Essay will be due on Wednesday, October 5th upon class entrance.

FRIDAY- Writing Lab Day
